DJ Clara

DJ Clara Stärna, Malmos queen of reggae, is one of few female dancehall DJs in Scandinavia. Her choice of music is unpredictable, conscious and bigging up the women. Sure thing she will make you dance, since she has always loved music and dancing.

13 years old she traded her flare suede trousers for 10 Bob Marley LP´s. 17 yrs old she went to England where she experienced her first raveparty. This led to 11 yrs of dedication to the ravescene all over Europe. Being brought up listening to diverse sounds like Jimi Hendrix and Motown, the love for black music stayed.

In January 2003 she met Zoro(www.jujurecords.com) in his studio in Gugulethu one of Cape Towns roughest ghettos. His music and lifestyle totally blew her mind. During 6 months he took her around the reggae/dancehall scene and taught her all about this music aswell as about the Rastafari culutre, which she fell in love with. New Years Eve 2003/2004 in Sweden they performed together for the first time. Wicked! Clara on the wheels and Zoro on the mic. Their aim is to spread love and consciousness over the dancefloor and to allways improve and surprise the massive wiith nuff energy.

DJ Clara Stärna has played at clubs like BamBam/Inkonst, Lutkastellet, KB, Chokladfabriken, Metro. During 2004 she and one of Malmos biggest reggae promoters Palle Tenfalk ran the reggae/dancehall club Dub Club Malmö. Clara was resident DJ and booked artists like RubaDubDK, RootsmanHI-FI, Shelion, Axxion Pakk, Unity Hi-Fi, Ty, Helt Off soundsystem and Papa Dee. Full Up every night. In Stockholm she can be heard at restaurant KohPhanGhan and in Gothenburg at Club studio One at prominent Nefertiti. The danish reggae massive knows her well from club RubaDub in Copenhagen. She has opened up for artists like Bushchemist, Culture Knots, Svenska Akademien, Governor Andy and BamBam Exile Sound.

Zoro and Clara has shared stage with artists like Julian Marley, Gentleman, Papa Dee and Rootsman HI-FI aswell as performing in different festivals like Uppsala Reggaefestival, Gagneffestival, Ung08 and Zenits stage at Malmö festival. During spring 06 she is running her own club Xpress Yourself Inkonst, Malmoe.

Besides being a Dj she works for Subwax Records(www.subwaxrecords.com), does spoken word and runs her own company Ziondistribution. Every month she is read by over 1 million people in the daily paper Metros entertainment panel aswell as heard on VoiceTv.

The main aim for Clara when she plays is to have fun, to not be put in a specific genre and to play music that big up the woman dem. Girls Rule 4ever!
